Trump-Aligned Political Group Seeks Official Recognition in Mexico

A political association aligned with U.S. President Donald Trump and the Republican Party is making efforts to establish itself as an officially recognized political party in Mexico. The group, formally called México Republicano, has started the process of recruiting and registering members to meet the national requirements.

To secure official party status, México Republicano must conduct assemblies in at least 20 Mexican states and register a minimum of 60,000 voters. The National Electoral Institute (INE) granted the group permission to pursue this status in January.

The organization, labeled by some as “ultra-right” and “confessional,” aligns ideologically with Trump’s policies, including his contentious immigration stance. México Republicano has openly supported Trump’s immigration raids while criticizing the Mexican government for what it describes as a failure to tackle migration issues with concrete policies.

Juan Iván Peña Neder, the president of the organization, insists that México Republicano is “the only republican and conservative political organization willing to take on the existing statist and clientelistic model of government” in Mexico. The group advocates for:

  • Economic growth
  • Free market principles
  • Strengthening Mexico’s middle class

The political organization was established in 2022 in the northern state of Chihuahua with support from evangelical groups and conservative business interests. Among its advisers is Larry Rubin, former CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico and the official representative of the U.S. Republican Party in Mexico.

México Republicano has maintained its alignment with Trump despite the negative effects of his tariff policies on the Mexican economy, arguing that this stance makes them the only genuine opposition to Mexico’s current government.
