A new Victorian-style tearoom has opened in San Miguel de Allende, bringing authentic British high tea tradition to the colonial Mexican city. The Tea Room offers a complete English afternoon tea experience featuring tiered trays with classic fare including:
- Finger sandwiches
- Scones
- Crumpets
- Sausage rolls
- Chicken salad
- Quiche
- Clotted cream
- Lemon curd
The establishment is the result of a partnership between British baker Ryan McNab and American entrepreneur Eve Mickendrow, who previously operated a teahouse in South Carolina for 25 years. McNab, who once worked at the prestigious Castle Howard Estate in Yorkshire, England, brings authentic British baking expertise to the venture.
McNab originally came to Mexico after reconnecting with his now-wife Julieta Moreno, whom he had met years earlier in the UK. He initially established a small business called Señor Crumpet before joining forces with Mickendrow to create The Tea Room.
The tearoom is designed to provide a cozy, unhurried atmosphere where guests can enjoy traditional tea service in an elegant setting complete with vintage teapots and chinaware. The establishment even includes a fairy-themed tea party room for children.
Location and Operation Hours
The Tea Room is located at Salida a Celaya 6, Interior 5, in San Miguel de Allende’s Zona Centro. It operates from Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with high tea service available from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling +52 415 200 7200.
The opening comes at a time when the British tradition of afternoon high tea is experiencing a global renaissance, particularly among younger people who are embracing this once formal ritual in more contemporary ways. For more information, you can visit the article on the Mexico News Daily website.
