Potential Aeroméxico Strike May Disrupt Travel Plans Starting Sunday

Aeroméxico travelers might soon encounter significant disruptions due to a looming flight attendants’ strike, with operations at risk of halting on Sunday if wage talks stall. The Mexican Aviation Flight Attendants Union (ASSA) demands salary increases in line with inflation to recover wage reductions imposed during COVID-19. Previous rounds of talks with the airline resulted in unsatisfactory proposed raises, offering 2.9% for senior staff and 3.25% for junior staff, which flight attendants rejected.

This standoff poses a substantial challenge for Aeroméxico, Mexico’s second-largest airline, as it attempts to regain financial stability after bankruptcy proceedings triggered by pandemic-related losses. Failure to reach a resolution by June 1 could severely impact flight schedules, coinciding with Mexico’s judicial elections, further complicating travel plans.

Travelers should stay updated and prepare alternative plans in case of interruptions. With a key meeting slated for Friday, there’s still a chance for a last-minute deal to prevent the strike. However, the union remains resolute in addressing the decline in purchasing power its members face, highlighting the negotiation’s complexity and urgency.
