Authorities have dismantled a significant extortion network in México state, allegedly controlled by the La Familia Michoacana cartel. “Operation Liberation” resulted in eight arrests, including a local councilwoman, and the seizure of 52 properties spread over 14 municipalities, including Valle de Bravo and Malinalco.

This cartel-operated network forced residents and businesses to buy goods at inflated prices, targeting sectors like farming, construction, and package delivery. They used fake labor unions and front businesses, affecting essential goods such as construction materials and meat.

Investigators uncovered coercive practices, including monopolizing services. In Texcaltitlán, customers faced illegal charges, while in Tejupilco, the cartel dominated package delivery. The operation seized:

  • Thousands of poultry
  • Tons of feed and meat
  • Various vehicles and properties

Nearly 3,000 personnel and hundreds of vehicles executed the raid. Authorities are determined to bring those behind these actions to justice. They plan to use the seized materials to support impacted communities. This operation forms part of broader initiatives to wrest control from criminal organizations and restore local economies and safety.
