Jalisco is rapidly establishing itself as a tourism powerhouse on Mexico’s Pacific coast with more than $1 billion in new hotel investments planned from now until 2028. The state is developing 38 new hotels, which will introduce 4,578 rooms across various destinations such as Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Costalegre, and numerous mountain and lake towns.

Already the second-largest hotel market in Mexico after Quintana Roo, Jalisco’s strategy focuses on expanding into diverse geographic areas to appeal to various types of travelers. Significant development is expected in the quiet Costalegre region between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo through Tezcalame, a 451-hectare master-planned community with a $230 million investment. This project will feature:

  • Luxury accommodations from Chablé Hotels
  • Residential options
  • A beach club
  • A golf course

In Guadalajara, major international chains are making substantial investments:

  • InterContinental Hotel Group: $165 million for seven new properties
  • Hilton: $90 million for four new hotels
  • Marriott: $65 million for four new hotels
  • Melia: Adding a $45 million ME by Meliá hotel

Additionally, the mountain and lake regions are drawing boutique hotel developments. Tapalpa, a forested highland town, will see $10 million in investments across several properties, while San Juan Cosalá on Lake Chapala will welcome Shaalam, a $6 million wellness-focused boutique hotel.

This hospitality expansion is supported by significant infrastructure developments, including major expansions at Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Jalisco reported 11 million visitors in early 2025 and currently hosts 2,821 hotels with over 83,000 rooms. The plan is to exceed 90,000 rooms by 2030.

With Guadalajara serving as a co-host for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, twelve of the new hotels are scheduled to open before the event, preparing for an anticipated surge in international visitors.
