A major tourism development has been completed in Playa del Carmen as Hotel Xcaret México officially opened its $700 million expansion project. The ambitious development adds 900 new rooms to the mega-resort and creates 2,130 direct jobs, strengthening the Riviera Maya’s tourism sector.

The expansion features five new family-friendly “Casas” or themed buildings, along with signature restaurants and entertainment areas catering to all age groups. The property now boasts 20 restaurants offering diverse cuisines from traditional Mexican to contemporary fusion, with many led by renowned chefs.

New aquatic attractions, including water slides and pools, have also been added to enhance the resort’s recreational offerings.

The project is part of Grupo Xcaret’s broader $3.3 billion strategic plan to develop a comprehensive tourism complex in the region. The resort operates under what it calls an “All-Fun Inclusive” model, providing guests unlimited access to all eight of the group’s theme parks:

  • Xcaret
  • Xel-Há
  • Xplor
  • Xplor Fuego
  • Xoximilco
  • Xenses
  • Xavage
  • Xenotes

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama and federal Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez Zamora presided over the opening ceremony. Governor Lezama highlighted that the investment demonstrates confidence in Mexico’s tourism industry and contributes to the economic development goals of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s Plan México national strategy.

According to company data, Grupo Xcaret’s properties welcomed five million visitors in 2023, making it one of the Riviera Maya’s most popular tourism destinations.
