The 28th Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) is prepared to present 206 films from 61 countries, diving into themes of artificial intelligence and psychological thrillers. Spanning over 11 days, the festival unfolds across Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, and Irapuato.
Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo,” this year’s festival artfully combines both traditional and contemporary film genres. Screenings are offered free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. The event not only hosts international premieres but also places a spotlight on Mexican cinema, featuring 51 Mexican premieres.
In Guanajuato city, the festival kicks off with the Uruguayan film “Un Futuro Brillante.” Unique venues such as Guanajuato’s tunnels spectacularly host late-night screenings. In San Miguel de Allende, the U.S. film “Omaha” draws attention, whereas Irapuato starts with the Mexican psychological thriller “No dejes a los niños solos.”
GIFF showcases its innovative edge through the Epicentro program, which includes virtual reality experiences and panels on the use of filmmaking technology such as AI. The festival honors distinguished Mexican cinema figures like actress Verónica Castro and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, highlighting its commitment to Mexican cultural achievements.
The festival concludes on August 4 in Irapuato, making a substantial impact on Mexico’s diverse cultural fabric. More details can be found on the official GIFF website.
