Farmacias Similares, renowned for its Dr. Simi mascot, has expanded its services with the launch of SimiPet Care, aiming to provide affordable veterinary care across Mexico. The initiative kicked off with the first clinic opening in Mexico City’s Escandón neighborhood last week.
Expansion Plans
The company plans to open 20 more branches in the capital by the end of July, with the potential to expand up to 100 branches nationwide by year-end, contingent on demand. According to Víctor González Herrera, CEO of Farmacias Similares, “Our system is a win-win. If everyone wins, we’ll grow quickly.”
Services Offered
SimiPet Care clinics provide basic services for dogs and cats, such as:
- Vaccinations
- Deworming
- Glucose tests
- Wound care
- Travel certificates
Consultations are priced at just 75 pesos (US $3.95), making veterinary care accessible to millions of Mexican families.
Clinic Operations
The clinics will be staffed by certified professionals from top universities and will operate with extensive hours, from Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
New Character
SimiPet Care introduces Dr. Lares, a gray-haired veterinary zootechnician who will be the face of this pet care division. Plush toys of Dr. Lares are already available.
Regulatory Context
This initiative is happening in the context of slow and inconsistent implementation of Mexico’s public veterinary clinic law, which was approved in January 2024, due to funding constraints.
The first SimiPet Care location is at 63 Calle Prosperidad in Mexico City’s Escandón neighborhood. For more information, visit the source.
