Ten members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) have received 141 years and three months in prison for their roles in kidnapping and murder activities at the notorious Izaguirre Ranch in Teuchitlán, Jalisco.

The sentencing was announced by the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office, which also imposed fines totaling approximately 1.3 million pesos (US $70,000) on the convicted criminals. The arrests occurred in September following a response by National Guard personnel to gunfire reports at the property.

During this raid, authorities found a body and rescued two kidnapping victims. Notably, one victim was allegedly detained by municipal police from Tala and then handed over to CJNG members.

Discovery at Izaguirre Ranch

Earlier this year, the Izaguirre Ranch attracted national attention when the Warrior Searchers of Jalisco collective uncovered over 150 pairs of shoes and human remains. The collective claimed to have found “17 sets of charred human bone remains,” which prompted some media outlets to label the location as an “extermination camp.”

Despite these findings, Mexico’s Security Minister Omar García Harfuch stated there was no evidence to support the “extermination camp” designation, referring to it instead as a “training center” for the cartel.

Additional Arrests and Allegations

Besides the ten sentenced members, five other individuals have been arrested in relation to the case. This includes three former municipal police officers from Tala and two alleged CJNG recruiters who are awaiting trial. Additionally, José Ascención Murguía Santiago, former mayor of Teuchitlán, was arrested in May on charges of organized crime and kidnapping. Authorities allege he collaborated with the CJNG, receiving payments from the criminal organization.

The CJNG reportedly began utilizing the ranch as a training facility in 2021, coinciding with Murguía’s second term as mayor of Teuchitlán.
