American volunteers from Kids First Orthopaedics have been making a meaningful difference in Mexico for the past 25 years. Founded by Dr. Billy Andrews, an orthopedic surgeon from Duke University, this organization delivers vital medical help to children in San Miguel de Allende.

Twice each year, Kids First Orthopaedics organizes trips to this Mexican city to assess and provide surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care to children with diverse physical conditions.

The Team

This dedicated team includes over 30 orthopedic surgeons and healthcare professionals from the United States, alongside more than 100 local volunteers from San Miguel. The collaboration with local hospitals is essential, ensuring the team can utilize the facilities and supplement them with specialized equipment brought from the U.S.

Impact on Children’s Lives

During these visits, hundreds of children receive treatments, including surgeries and follow-up care that would otherwise be out of reach. This grassroots initiative underscores the strong bonds and cooperative spirit between Americans and Mexicans, shining as a beacon of optimism for countless families throughout the area.
