A planned strike by Aeroméxico flight attendants has been postponed until June 10, giving the airline and union representatives additional time to negotiate a salary agreement that has been at the center of labor tensions.
The Association of Mexican Aviation Flight Attendants (ASSA), representing nearly 3,200 Aeroméxico employees, had initially planned to begin the strike on June 1 but agreed to the extension following improved wage offers from the airline.
Flight attendants are seeking salary increases to offset inflation, originally demanding a 4.13% wage hike. After multiple rounds of negotiations facilitated by the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration over the weekend, Aeroméxico improved its initial offer of 2.9-3.25% to 4.5%.
The union acknowledged the airline’s good-faith bargaining efforts in its decision to postpone the strike. According to official statements, the extension will allow ASSA members to properly consider the new proposal while negotiations continue this week.
For travelers planning to fly with Aeroméxico, the airline has confirmed that all flights will operate as scheduled during the postponement period, avoiding the widespread disruptions that would have occurred with an immediate strike.
The labor dispute centers on flight attendants’ concerns about lost purchasing power due to rising inflation between 2020 and 2024. The union maintains that salary increases need to match annual inflation rates to restore appropriate compensation levels for both senior and junior staff members.
