San Miguel de Allende is once again vying for the prestigious Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards, aspiring to reclaim the title of Best City in the World, a distinction it last held in 2024.
The city’s acclaim extends to Condé Nast Traveler, which has named San Miguel de Allende the No. 1 Small City in the World five times between 2017 and 2022. México Desconocido magazine also recognized it as the Best Wedding Destination in Mexico earlier this year.
Cultural Highlights
Cultural experiences are a major draw, with the Festival of the Arts San Miguel de Allende (FASMA) returning for its third edition from August 1-17. The festival will showcase over 100 events, including opera, jazz, ballet, and visual arts, with performances by 13-time Grammy winner Chuchito Valdés.
LGBTQ+ Pride Celebrations
LGBTQ+ Pride will be celebrated throughout July, highlighted by a march on July 12 starting at Parque Juárez. This year, the COSMA (Colectivo Orgullo San Miguel de Allende) organization aims to focus on structural justice beyond symbolic inclusion.
Public Transportation and Safety
- The municipal government has approved its first fare increase in 13 years, raising bus fares from 8 to 10 pesos (approximately US $0.50). However, students and seniors will continue to receive a 50% discount.
- In terms of public safety, officials are enhancing preventive measures against regional crime. Efforts include doubling the capacity of the C4 surveillance center, upgrading patrol units, and expanding police training to ensure city security amid external pressures.
