A South Korean automotive components manufacturer is making a significant investment in central Mexico, further strengthening the country’s position as a key player in the global automotive supply chain.

Investment Details

SL MEX has invested US $45 million to establish a new production facility in the Logistik II industrial park in Villa de Reyes, San Luis Potosí, approximately 50 kilometers south of the state capital.

  • The facility spans 8.9 hectares and includes a 14,000-square-meter building.
  • It will manufacture automotive headlight modules for major global brands including BMW, General Motors, Hyundai, and Kia.

Production and Economic Impact

When operational in the coming months, the plant will house 12 production lines with the capacity to produce up to one million modules annually. The facility is expected to create 385 direct jobs and generate estimated annual sales of US $144 million by 2030.

The investment is part of a larger nearshoring trend benefiting San Luis Potosí, which attracted US $642 million in new investments during the first quarter of 2025. Most of these investments are in the automotive sector, including electric vehicle production and components such as lithium batteries.

Company Background

SL MEX is the Mexican subsidiary of SL Corporation, established in South Korea in 1954. The multinational company, headquartered in Gyeongsan, maintains operations in Korea, the United States, India, China, Brazil, and Poland, with annual sales reaching approximately US $4 billion.

The announcement was made by San Luis Potosí Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, who described the investment as a step toward diversifying and modernizing the state’s automotive industry.
