Fox Corporation has significantly expanded its presence in the Mexican sports media market by acquiring Caliente TV, a prominent Mexican sports streaming platform and television channel.
The deal, announced on June 19, strengthens Fox’s footprint in both Mexico and Latin America, though financial details were not disclosed. The acquisition gives Fox access to Caliente’s established subscriber base and extensive sports rights portfolio.
With this purchase, Fox gains broadcasting rights to several major soccer properties, including:
- Six Liga MX men’s teams: Tijuana, FC Juárez, Querétaro, León, Pachuca, and Tigres
- Ten Liga MX women’s clubs
- International competitions: UEFA Champions League, Concacaf Champions League, France’s Ligue 1, and Italy’s Coppa Italia
Carlos Martínez, Fox’s executive vice president and managing director for Latin America, will oversee the expansion. The company plans to introduce new channels in Mexico and Central America, including a pay-TV channel and the new Fox One direct-to-consumer streaming service, which is scheduled to launch this summer before the U.S. football season begins.
This strategic move comes as streaming has recently surpassed traditional broadcast and cable TV viewing for the first time, according to Nielsen data. The company expects to employ more than 350 people across its expanded Mexican operations.
The acquisition complements Fox’s existing sports programming that includes the English Premier League, FA Cup, Big Ten Conference football, and the United Football League.
