Ford Motor Company marked its 100-year anniversary in Mexico with plans to expand its Global Technology and Business Center (GTBC) in México state. This move underscores their long-term dedication to the country.
The announcement was made during a special event in Mexico City, where Ford originally established operations in 1925. The GTBC, which opened in 2022 in Naucalpan, México state, is one of Ford’s three global centers and includes the largest automotive engineering facility in Mexico.
Ford has a significant presence in Mexico with the following facilities:
- Vehicle assembly plants in Sonora and México state.
- Engine production facilities in Chihuahua and Guanajuato.
These operations are critical to Ford’s international strategy. Notably, over 183,000 Ford vehicles were exported from Mexico in just the first five months of 2025, which is nearly nine times the number sold domestically.
As part of the centennial celebration, Ford committed $2 million to broaden its “Education in Movement” program in Mexico. This initiative includes the construction of two new primary schools in Mexicali and near the GTBC, adding to the 212 schools funded by Ford across Mexico over the years.
The anniversary represents Ford’s legacy as Mexico’s first automobile manufacturer. Today, Ford employs over 14,000 people in Mexico and operates 113 Ford and Lincoln dealerships nationwide.
