Toluca, the capital of México state, has secured its place in culinary history by creating the world’s longest chorizo torta, measuring an impressive 82 meters (269 feet) in length.

The record-breaking sandwich was assembled on Sunday as part of the “Entre Pinceles, Chisels y Sabores” festival at the Eagle Fountain in Toluca’s city center. The massive creation required:

  • 100 kilograms of red and green chorizo
  • 20 kilos of beans
  • 42 kilos of avocado
  • 46 kilos of tomatoes
  • 20 kilos of chilies
  • 60 liters of Mexican crema

Ten master chefs collaborated with city workers and dozens of volunteers to construct the enormous sandwich, which surpassed the previous record of a 75-meter torta built during Mexico City’s annual Torta Festival in 2023. A notary public certified the new record, though there was no mention of Guinness World Records verification.

Thousands gathered to witness the event and later enjoyed portions of the monumental sandwich. The achievement highlighted Toluca’s deep historical connection to chorizo production, dating back to the 16th century when the city was considered the chorizo capital of New Spain.

Festival Attractions

The three-day festival featured additional attractions including:

  • Craft beer tastings
  • Chorizo exhibitions
  • Concerts
  • Cultural activities representing over 20 countries

This achievement joins other notable Mexican culinary records, including a kilometer-long sashimi in Mazatlán, an 80-meter taco acorazado in Cuernavaca, and a 558-kilogram ball of Oaxaca cheese in Pijijiapan, Chiapas.
