The Los Cabos Tennis Open, one of only two Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournaments held in Mexico, begins Monday, July 14, and runs until July 19 at the Cabo Sports Complex in Baja California Sur.
After temporarily moving to a February-March slot in 2024 to support Acapulco’s recovery from Hurricane Otis, the ATP 250 series event has returned to its traditional summer schedule. This means competitors will face not only each other but also intense seasonal heat, with temperatures expected to reach 90°F with up to 50% humidity.
The tournament offers US $873,000 in prize money and features 32 of the world’s top men’s singles players and 16 doubles teams. Top-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev (ranked 14th globally) headlines the field, alongside Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina (28th) and Canada’s Denis Shapovalov (31st). Mexican fans will be watching Mérida native Rodrigo Pacheco Méndez (219th), who made history earlier this year as the first Mexican in decades to win a main draw match at the Mexican Open.
Since its 2016 debut at Delmar International School, the tournament has grown significantly in popularity and economic impact. Attendance increased from 25,000 spectators in 2022 to 34,000 in 2024, generating over $6 million for the local economy.
The Cabo Sports Complex, which has hosted the event since 2021, features five hard courts including a 3,500-seat stadium court. Ticket prices range from 1,075 pesos (US $57) for individual sessions to 12,890 pesos (US $688) for weekend series packages covering the quarterfinals through finals.
For those unable to attend in person, ESPN and Disney+ will provide television coverage of the tournament, which stands as Los Cabos’ premier summer sporting spectacle alongside the PGA World Wide Technology Championship held in November.
