Mexican cycling sensation Isaac del Toro secured his second straight victory in the 2025 Tour of Austria by winning Stage 3 on Friday. He has now moved into second place in the overall standings. The 21-year-old, known as “Torito,” is just three seconds behind his UAE Team Emirates teammate Felix Grossschartner of Austria with two stages remaining.

Del Toro triumphed over a challenging 142-kilometer route from Salzburg to the summit of Gaisberg, despite difficult rainy conditions. His strategy involved conserving energy, aided by his teammates, and launching a powerful sprint in the final 300 meters of a steep climb.

The Mexican cyclist finished with a time of 3:39:27, defeating American AJ August of Ineos Grenadiers by five seconds and teammate Grossschartner by seven seconds. Although August attempted a breakaway with 1.4 kilometers remaining, Del Toro successfully countered and pulled ahead in the final stretch.

Del Toro continues to build on an impressive international career. Earlier this year, he made history at the 2025 Giro d’Italia by wearing the leader’s pink jersey (maglia rosa) for 11 consecutive days, ultimately finishing second behind Britain’s Simon Yates. This marked him as the first Mexican cyclist to reach a Grand Tour podium.

Originally from Ensenada, Del Toro started cycling at a young age before moving to Italy at 16 to gain international experience. He joined A.R. Monex Pro Cycling Team in 2019 and signed with UAE Team Emirates in 2023.

The Tour of Austria continues with its fourth stage on July 12.
