A US citizen has been arrested in Atlacomulco, México state, after authorities found him heavily armed and falsely claiming to be a CIA agent. The incident occurred last week when police responded to a 9-1-1 call about an aggressive individual brandishing weapons.

According to the official police report, the suspect, identified only as “James,” was standing on an apartment balcony wearing tactical gear including a helmet and a bullet-proof vest while displaying a gun and knife. Officers determined he posed a significant threat to community safety.

State and municipal police surrounded the building before the Special Reaction Force (FAR) entered the apartment and apprehended the suspect. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of a hand injury before being formally arrested.

Inside the apartment, authorities discovered an alarming arsenal that included:

  • Four pistols
  • Two 5.56 mm Colt assault rifles (M4 carbines)
  • Over 100 rounds of ammunition
  • Six magazines
  • Various tactical equipment including ballistic plates and helmets with digital cameras

The suspect was wearing what appeared to be a CIA badge and carrying a CIA credential, though authorities have not confirmed their authenticity.

After medical treatment, the man was transferred to the México state Attorney General’s Office and charged with disturbing public order and possession of weapons exclusively reserved for military use.

Atlacomulco, where the arrest took place, is a municipality of 110,000 residents located approximately 120 kilometers from Mexico City. The area is historically significant as the political center of the “Grupo Atlacomulco” during the Institutional Revolutionary Party’s long rule.
